The Future of Verification: What Journalists Can (and Cannot) Expect from AI
Evidence and Insights from the news-polygraph Research Alliance

From deepfakes to decontextualisation, verification challenges are multiplying. Increasingly, AI is not only seen as part of the problem, but also as a possible solution to combat disinformation. But what can journalists realistically expect?
After three years of research and development, the news-polygraph Research Alliance brings together journalists, technologists and media professionals to discuss what AI-supported verification can actually deliver today. Sharing evidence and insights from the development and testing of multimodal verification tools, the conference examines the promises and limits of verification in journalistic practice. What proves useful across text, audio, image and video? Where do current approaches fall short? And can we expect AI-based tools to ever become a one-stop solution?
The conference offers a grounded perspective on how AI can support journalists in addressing disinformation and invites discussion on what this means for editorial practice and the future of information verification.
